English 1 - 1
English I builds a strong foundation for future learning through basic grammar, usage, and vocabulary. This class also explores learning through various American literature genres and encourages students to develop creative writing and critical thinking skills. Other areas of emphasis include study skills and strategies, such as note taking, time management, active listening and test preparation that are critical to success in school, essential for acquiring good grades and useful for learning throughout one’s life.


English 2 - 1
English II includes a review of English grammar and usage; a survey of world literary genres; and an opportunity to write poetry, narratives, descriptions and other prose.


English 3 - 1
English III includes a review of English grammar and usage; a survey of American literature including the various literary genres; and a review of the concepts of writing with an emphasis on creative writing.


English 4 - 1
English IV includes the study of grammar, usage, test-taking, and vocabulary skills; a survey of British Literature including the various literary genres; and an emphasis on research writing skills.


English as a Second Language (ESL)
Fletcher Academy offers ESL coursework for international students who want to study in the United States. The ESL program strives to help these students become more fluent in English. Students will also be enrolled in other courses in the regular curriculum. Placement in ESL courses will be determined by the ESL Director.
