Fine Arts

Art – Up to 1 credit
This course provides students with an opportunity to experience many different artistic mediums and techniques. It allows students a chance to experiment with these processes and materials to find ones that fit their style. It enables students to work with professional artists and people who create art for a hobby. Special attention will be given to discovering how art enhances our lives.

Band – 1/2
The concert band is available by audition to all students. Sacred and secular music from various styles and periods are included in concert repertoire. The grade is based on individual performance and progression. Attendance is required at performances and rehearsals, including dress rehearsals.Music Department

Choir – 1/2
The concert choir is available to all students who meet minimum audition requirements. The chosen choral repertoire is designed to develop in students a sense of spiritual commitment, to enhance their vocal abilities and develop their musical talents. Sacred and secular choral literature is included in concerts and programs. Attendance is required at performances and rehearsals, including dress rehearsals. Music Department

Creative Expressions – 1/2
This is a lab course designed to introduce the student to various crafts and the skills needed to create them. The students will learn various techniques and ideas in how to utilize these skills by completing the hands-on projects assigned. The different crafts learned can include, but are not limited to, the following: stamping, scrapbooking, quilting, models (e.g. cars, airplanes), embroidery, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, flower arranging, and basket weaving. There will be a $25 fee for materials.

Drama – 1/2
The course curriculum prepares students to participate in the AcTs II touring drama troupe. Instruction includes pantomimes, skits and monologues. The grade for this course is based on attendance, participation and performance. (AcTs II - Drama)

Music Appreciation – 1
This is a course designed to increase the student’s ability to listen to music perceptively. In addition, this course helps the student acquire basic, useful knowledge about music, including its basic theory, styles, forms, terminology, and historical contexts. Study in music history will primarily focus on the styles and composers of classical music during the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth-Century musical periods.

Music Lessons – 1/2
Private individual instrumental lessons are available to those who wish to improve their instrumental skills, and to those who would like to learn an instrument and be able to join the Concert Band. Lessons will be scheduled for one half-hour session a week. A minimum of two hours of practice outside the lesson is required. (Please check with the Music Department for any additional music fees.)
