Campus Life :: Work Program
The work program at Fletcher Academy is a fundamental part of Adventist Christian education. There are three objectives of the program:
- Encourage students to develop an appreciation for work as a vital part of life.
- Teach students good work habits.
- Provide a way for students to earn part of their expenses while at school.
Fletcher Academy believes that learning to work, to be punctual and to faithfully perform assigned duties is as much a part of education as any other aspect of school life. For these reasons the school has adopted the following work policy:
- Each student is required to work.
- Each student’s work will be evaluated by the supervisor at the end of each nine weeks. The work grade is part of the overall GPA. The academy makes provision for all students to spend part of each day working, and, for this reason, arranges classes so students have three to four hours in the morning or the afternoon to gain practical work experience.
- Work responsibilities may require the student to work alternate home leaves or long breaks.
- Students whose financial accounts are not current may be required to work during the summer.
- Poor work performance may jeopardize a student’s stay at Fletcher Academy.
If a student wants summer work, he/she must follow the full application procedure and be accepted for the next school year before he/she is eligible for any campus job.
Workers' Compensation
Fletcher Academy, Inc. (FAI), carries Workers' Compensation Insurance on every student employed by FAI for any accident which might occur while the student is working for the corporation. It is the student's responsibility to report any injury within 24 hours to his/her immediate work supervisor.
Work Permits
To be employed as a worker, all youth under 18 years of age must obtain a youth employment certificate. In order to obtain a work permit, they must provide a copy of their birth certificate and Social Security card.
